Choice Hotels International, Inc. is a hospitality franchisor based in Rockville, Maryland, United States. The company, which is one of the largest hotel chains in the world, owns several hotel brands ranging from upscale to economy. As of June 30, 2020, Choice Hotels franchised 7,118 properties in 41 countries and territories worldwide, with approximately 597,018 rooms, in addition to 1,035 hotels under construction with 85,129 rooms. Mainstay Suites is one of its many brands.

A former Guest Services Agent in Texas says, "[Mainstay Suites] Management didn't know what he was doing and only got the job because his daddy owned the property. He played favorite with the horrible employees and penalized the hard workers."

A former housekeeper at a Florida location says oh her experience working there, "This place [Mainstay Suites] is the pits! The GM treats you like you are trash and is a racist... The other housekeepers are rude and horrible to work with. If a guest leaves a tip you will never receive it as the head housekeeper goes in ahead of you and that is who gets the will never see it...this place is awful so do yourself a favor and bypass it. I was there for 2 months and seen people leave on their 1st day after being treated like dirt, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE".

Housekeeper/Breakfast Attendant (Former Employee) says

"When I first started I loved working at Mainstay Suites Cedar Rapids. Within the last 6 months of my employment the owners made my job impossible. We would go months needing things in my department. They would often ask why rooms were out of order and would get upset when they were told items were needed for it to be back in order. I was harassed by a new employee and when I tried bringing it to the attention of the general manager he ignored me. I felt it was best for my mental health and my personal safety if I ended my employment. I highly don’t recommend working here. You get a discount for any Choice Hotel.Lack of structure communication low wages, no benefits."

Executive Housekeeping Manager (Former Employee) says

"Working at the Mainstay suites was a good job at the beginning but after being the executive housekeeper it was horrible. The manager staff are so into themselves and don't have trust in their employees. Some of the staff members will try to get you in trouble for something you said. So yeah I wouldn't recommend working here at all."

Employee (Former Employee) says

"Will NEVER work for mainstay in Greer, SC again. They do not care about staff, the pay isn't worth what you have to deal with from management nor is it enough to live on. They promise raise and you never see it. Don't waste your time."

Housekeeper (Former Employee) says

"This place is the pits,!!!!! The GM treats you like you are trash and is a racist .... You are outside in the pouring rain, and extreme heat with no coverage and you have to go up 2 sets of stairs to their penthouses and then while in the penthouse there is another 2 flights of stairs that if raining you still have to go up and down the stairs in the pouring rain. The other housekeepers are rude and horrible to work with. If a guest leaves a tip you will never receive it as the head housekeeper goes in ahead of you and that is who gets the will never see it... this place is awful so do yourself a favor and bypass it. I was there for 2 months and seen people leave on their 1st day after being treated like dirt,,, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE"

Guest Services Agent/Trainer (Former Employee) says

"Management didn't know what he was doing and only got the job because his daddy owned the property. He played favorite with the horrible employees and penalized the hard workers.NoneEverything"

Night Auditor/Front Desk Clerk (Former Employee) says

"Not a great environment to work in at all, this hotel has tve same owner as Atlantic Beach Hotel..and they hire anybody with out the concerns if safety for both guest and employees.Fulltime employmentTerrible Management/unsafe to work in"

Housekeeper (Former Employee) says

"Where do I even begin.... Working at Mainstay Suites on Dry Pocket Rd. Was a nightmare. The managers and the GM is horrible and treats you poorly.!Never encourage others, always finding something wrong"

Dual General Manager (Former Employee) says

"Not a healthy work environment, corporate and owners have no clue on what it takes to run a hotel on a daily basis, and have no appreciation. At All. A typical week was 90 to 100 hours, the hardest part of the job was being dissected and put on the defensive by corporate and owners on a daily basis.Always exhausted, so never had any trouble sleepingHalth really suffered because of the demands of the job"

Housekeeper (Former Employee) says

"This is a hotel where they tell lies, set up good employees , never pay employees their money on time and never award you when you make them look good. They have lost more housekeepers than they have hired. They still need them now. This is mot a good place to work for if you are trying to live.NoneNeed new supervisors and managers."

Breakfast Attendant (Former Employee) says

"General manager doesn't care about employees at all. His air of arrogance makes it uncomfortable to work when he's around."

Front Desk Receptionist (Former Employee) says

"Rude unprofessional manager, talk down on people and treat each residents according to race based off security deposit local residents must pay 250.00 deposit cash she will easily take the 250.00 for noise or smoking even sometimes for no reason. she use her assistant manger to do her dirty work and talk down on her employees"

Front desk agent (Former Employee) says

"All i have to say is that it was a paying job. And only one person i worked with did i gain anything from, my FOM.... pnly positive from working there."

Night Shift auditor (Former Employee) says

"They are not allowing anyone to move on to the next level.employees sabotage you. They had been trying to get rid of me .The G.M is mean and only kind to those who he couldnt get rid of."

Front Desk Agent (Former Employee) says

"Worked here for almost 8 months and found the atmosphere outstanding guest were always nice and the other staff was great to work with and talk to, however, the management staff were replaced when new ownership took over and the new Front desk managers have no idea how to run a hotel. Also if your a man applying for this front desk position you will sooner or later be forced out because of both manager's jealousy and cattiness. They are easily threatened by people who actually know what they are doing and are quick to get rid of people they do not like. These are just facts the Minot Mainstay has high turnover because management is quick to CYA themselves and are going to turn on anyone to do it. Apply with caution hopefully, everything works out however I did not like working while looking over my shoulder.with the exception of front desk management everyone is great to work withHigh school gossip and Mean Girl shennanigans by the Front Desk Managers"

Night Auditor (Former Employee) says

"Under paid for the work they want you to do. It was dirty and management did nothing to change the things that needed to be changed. Food prep and storage was poor"

Head Housekeeper/Front Desk (Former Employee) says

"The hotel is a great hotel.i have worked at this hotel in 2014 to 2016 and moved out of town and i loved working there and when i moved back i got hired back and enjoyed it until they had hiried a bew manager who wasnt very nice she is rude and doesnt care about her employees only the business if you go to her with a problem she will turn around and bring your problem up to another employees"

Night Auditor (Former Employee) says

"Management needs major attention!! The management has no professionalism whatsoever. Rude, inconsiderate, uninvolved, egotistical, uncaring, uneducated people ive ever worked for."

"Worked third shift at this job and loved it.The lobby stayed quiet and clean..The customers were always nice and understanding..The managers were very helpful and kept the office a comfortable place for productivity."

Guest Service Representative / Customer Service (Former Employee) says

"The owner manages. They are collectively greedy, selfish, entitled people. No benefits. No paid holidays. No paid time off... No raises... Not a very nice franchise to make a career with..."

Front Desk/Guest Relations (Current Employee) says

"I learned quite a bit learning here about so many different things. A typical day at work starts with checking my chatter (facebook for work) and keeping up with what is happening in the hotel and with guests. Making reservations for guests, making cookies for the guests during the week and keeping the property nice and neat inside and out. The hardest part of the job has to be dealing with the low pay and the high volume of work. The most enjoyable part of the job has definitely got to be helping guests and going above and beyond to make their experience the best they have ever gotten from a healthcare, mediocre pay"

AAA says

"Stayed at Rodeway Inn, East Division, Arlington Texas. Didn't have much sleep as train horns blasted all through the night, neither windows nor doors are soundproof despite being next to a busy cargo trains hub. I asked to change to a back room for second night and the price was hiked, that a change of room attracts extra $20 as per Choice Hotel policy-slashed to $10 after protest, room price increased too. New room was less prone to train noise but gosh, sperm on bedsheets of one of the two beds in the room! I will post pictures on Google reviews. Extremely bad management and customer service, zero stars, Pilot trust gifted them the one star in this review."

Treena lester says

"Made reservations here for sept 4 & 5.... was room 205. When we walked in I knew something was wrong the beds were made carelessly made the top cover was stained with what looked like dried blood. Had cigarette burns on the Ratty blanket they had on bed. There was no way the carpet could have been vacuumed, it had white spots all over it you could take your shoe and rub it out. We were gonna try make the best of it and we happened upon a bag if needles in the desk. Needless to say we went to the front desk and no one would go look at the room and check it out. Unfortunately because we booked through Priceline they won’t even consider refunding my money. So needless to say your name and that motel is a joke. They do not represent choice hotels. 3670 Roy messer highway white pine tn 37890"

Sandra Matthes says

"They charged my credit card for the room 19 days before the stay. When I canceled the reservation, within the cancellation period, because it was purchased with points and cash they charged me $80 for the canceled reservation. This policy is not on their site, I cannot find it. Other hotel chains treat the traveling public much kinder, especially in times of a health crisis."

Renee says

"I went to Clarion Inn in Merrillville, Indiana and I have to say very bad service. My sister, mother and cousin had a room there and my sister's room it had hair in the sheets. My mom's room was the most decent except her towels had stains on them. My cousin's room was the worst of all, they put her in a room and on the inside the door handle fell off and the guy at the front desk ignored her when she was trying to tell him about it so I said loud and clear to my cousin call corporate and tell them Vincent doesn't want to help you and then he gave her another room. The second room they gave her had a McDonald's bag under the bed and a chip bag on the side of the other bed, the tub had black marks in it and who knows how long the toilet hasn't been cleaned cuz it was also a black ring in it I'm not even going to go into the spider webs on the ceiling. We asked for more towels and they also had stains all in the towels. That hotel is making money for them not to buy new towels. I would never again stay there in my life. They really has ran down from 2 years ago when I came the last time even then the towels was very white and not off white with brown stains. They need a new owner or something that cares about that facility. It don't deserve 1 star but my moms room was the most decent out of all of them."
